Music

I hope this post doesn't offend anyone since I really don't mean to sound rude. But I do have a blogging pet peeve. And I saw someone else post about it on their blog, so I thought I would too.
I really don't like it when people have music on their blog or website.

A. I never remember who has music and who doesn't on their blogs and if the volume is up high on my computer, the music is all of a sudden blaring in the room when I click on a blog.

B. Usually if I'm at the computer, I'm already listening to my own music. So I'm set in that category.

C. When I go to a blog and hear the music come on, I quickly scroll down to find the "pause" button on the player. But then a minute later, I'll click on a picture or something on your blog and when I come back to the homepage, there's the music again! Annoying.

D. Often I just hit the mute button when I go to blogs with music, but that doesn't work if Lucy's at the computer with me watching a video or something (while I kill time checking Google Reader and the blogging world).

I'm not saying people shouldn't have music on their blogs. To each their own. But I have noticed that some people have music players which default to "pause" when you go to the blog. So if I do choose to listen to music, I can click play....otherwise it's just silent.

Okay, there you go. I'm done. I'm sure I commit blogging etiquette which annoys others. I probably ramble too long and post too many pictures. So if my blog annoys of you, feel free to post about it :).

I personally like hearing the music. If it is there great, if not no big deal either. I didn't know people had such strong feeling about it!! =)
So, in honor of you my dear, I have gone in and chng the mode to Auto Start. Hope that makes our blog a better experience!! hahaha!!!

Totally agree! This is Maxine (Kwok) by the way. I linked to your blog from my sister-in-law's (who knows your brother). Isn't blog hopping a beautiful thing? Check us out when you get the chance: www.maxsquared.org.

Thank you for accommodating!
And for not being annoyed by my silly annoyances :)

I think you might already know how I feel. In fact I was just thinking this again yesterday as I was reading some blogs (and some friends' myspace accounts). I HATE it.
And really, I think back to my working days and I would check blogs on my lunch break and it was kind of embarrassing when all of the sudden music was coming out of my cubicle.

Don't feel badly for expressing YOUR opinions on YOUR blog. :-)

I agree with you on the noise. I just keep my speakers turned off completely because I can't take the chance. Sometimes I have a baby asleep in the room and there's no way I'm willing to jeopardize that!

Yes Collette, I totally feel your comments about working in a cubicle and all of a sudden loud music comes on. We all know that each other are surfing the internet, but we don't really need to remind each other :)

Funny you mention this...I just redid my blog layout the other day and my music player is not there anymore. I've been debating if I should put it back on because I don't seem to miss it yet. Well I think I have my answer now :o) I must say though that I really don't mind it on other people's blogs. It does tell me a bit more about them and I usually like the songs.

I too HATE it when music comes on...it's usually all of a sudden, and way too loud and disruptive...I always mute it right away...

TOTALLY agree!! It always startles me when the music starts and then I have to scroll down to find out where to stop it. It's the worst when I am blog surfing and I have several tabs open--I have to quickly go through each one to see whose it is.

I don't hate the music but personally I really don't care for it. Although I have to admit that there are times when I can think of a good song to go along with a post.
Good Post!

I love the music and discovering some new songs that I may not have ever heard, I am a music lover to the highest degree so to me, my blog would not represent me without my music on it, I can't imagine it without it.

TOTALLY agree! Couldn't have said it better myself

Dana, I need your address so I can send a newsletter we did this year instead of Christmas cards. Comment it to my blog, thanks!!

Dana, can you tell me how to put video clips from personal home videos onto the blog. You can email me at lexiehill@gmail.com if you have time....I'd love to know how to do that.

I was actually getting sick of the music coming up on my own blog, so I recently deleted it. Plus, you're right, if I want to listen to music, I'll listen to my own.Not that I mind that much about others. I don't have speaker plugged in right now anyway, so it doesn't matter to me! :)

I'm right there with you. I get totally startled when it comes on and then I have to quickly find the mute button. I think music is OK if you are allowed to choose when to turn it on or off. Same goes for cheesy websites that play midi tunes when you open them up.
