Prom

Last night I got to hang out at the LDS prom. In the past few years, our church has started hosting these proms comprised of 11 stakes in the area. Our Wild Wild West Prom brought kids from Valencia down to Rancho Palos Verdes. What a fun idea! It was held at the Gene Autry National Museum at Griffith Park:
I was asked to be a photographer for the night, snapping candids of the kids (which were shown on a bigscreen throughout the night while they danced).
Um, really? Dancing, pictures, fun dresses? Count me in!
Kids walked the red carpet to get in:
Most came in big groups and seemed to have so much fun the whole night:
This cute girl was my favorite:
I loved her hair:
And this was fun too:
There was a sketch artist, karaoke room, candy bar, chocolate fountain, and a balloon man:
who made balloons that looked like the kids. I want one of those!
It started to rain during dinner but the show went on as planned.
The kids wandered all the awesome museum exhibits (and allowed me to take dumb pictures of them with Cash):
And in the faux dressing rooms:
And then they hit the bumpin dance floor. I seriously wanted to get out there and dance with them all! Instead I wandered the exhibits by myself, then wrapped it up, and headed home.
To be 16 again and have a bunch of great volunteers throw an awesome party for you! (and deal with all the awkard 16 year old drama that comes along?.....hmmm....maybe it's good I was the photographer and not sucking it in all night in a tight dress.)

cool that you got to go -- looks like it was fun! i love seeing all the cute modest dresses...and i never went to a real prom, so something like this would have really worked out for me :)

sometimes when i hear katy perry on the radio i think i want to hit up a stake dance again or something...and then i remember that a. i'm too old and b. i don't miss all the anxiety that comes from one of those :)

Glad it was fun and the rain didn't put a damper on things.

YAY!! Thanks for posting about the prom!! I was at the pre-prom party at South Pas, and it was so fun to see everyone in their dresses and suits. I wanted to go!! Now I got to relive it a little. :-) I love that girl's hair, too. STUNNING.

Lucky you! What fun!!! We should have a virtual formal party where we all get dolled up and dance in the living room with our husbands! :) (And take pictures to share, of course!)

What a great idea, I didn't know this existed. This almost reminds me of grad night in my high school...so thorough and creative. My favorite was the feather in the hair.....these girls are just darling, thanks for sharing. It gives me hope for Sienna to go to school dances one day.

those were the days...well, kind of :-)
depending on when I think about prom, I wouldn't mind going again.

great photog skills!

keep thinking it would stink to go solo...but, maybe it wouldn't be so bad after all? I'll have to remember and ask you about that

Super fun times! That is so great that they put this together for the kids (I'm sure they'd love that I'm calling them "kids" but whatev) and I also noticed that the dresses were actually church standards. Amazing!

I love the idea of an LDS prom. They didn't do it when I was 16. To get all dressed up and have a fancy night out...what a blast. Fab photos too!

Those balloon people are awesome. That does look like so much fun. They should do a prom for adults!
