first spelling

In the kitchen this afternoon, Lucy exclaimed, "Mom, look! S-T-O-P, spells, STOP!"
She's been recognizing simple words for a while now (mom, dad, dog, cat, Lucy, Owen, etc.) but never has she actually spelled the word out herself. Today however, she went to the fridge, found each of the letters, and put them in the right order. You did it Lucy! S-T-O-P does spell Stop. I wasn't kidding about her undying love for "Occagons" and STOP signs. I guess when you chant the same "S-T-O-P spells Stop" in the car for a 1/2 hour each day, it really starts to sink in.

Another new stage she's hit: taking pictures. Thankfully she found some gum-ball machine-sized camera toy and finds it as snazzy as my Canon. Whenever I want to take a picture, she wants to take one too:
To bring it full-circle, we spent the afternoon walking the neighborhood, taking pictures of STOP signs.

impressive. I love that she is so obsessed with stop signs. Zeke likes them, but only likes, not loves. One thing he does love are those letters like you have on your fridge. We don't own any, but whenever we go to someone's house and they have them, my boys can't stay away.

Lucy spells? I'm going to chock up Caleb's lack of anything in that department to no Yo Gabba Gabba! :)

We finally have tv again though so I can shift some of the burden to Blue's Clues and Dora -- phew!

Just you wait. Cooper was reading small words around that age and then we were driving and he says "Dad, does that say Albertsons?"

haha. yes, a blog of Lucy's pictures would be great. Fortunately so far, the camera is plastic, with images of zoo animals in the viewfinder (if she could ever figure out how to actually look through it).
