We've been encouraged as individuals to use our specific talents to help the YES effort for Proposition 8 here in California. We all know I love to talk. So I thought a conversation starter might be in order. Here's Lucy's new hairclip:
She's worn it to the park a few times and on our outing to the Noah's Ark Exhibit, which actually sparked a conversation. The woman was more interested in how I actually crafted the hairclip, rather than the statement it makes. But hey, that's a start. Only 9 days left till voting day.

Many of you may not live in California but you may have friends or family who do. We and families across the state ask for your support on this very pivotal proposition.

Proposition 8 protects marriage and families by defining marriage as "between a man and a woman".

There are many misconceptions behind a YES vote. Borrowed from a friends blog, here are some brief explanations:
Misconception #1. People who are PRO proposition 8 are ANTI gay. That is a pretty broad generalization, and I'm sure that there are some who are, but I would say that most of us aren't. We are not out to hurt others. We are not out to victimize others. We fear that we may become the victims as time goes on and we are not allowed to believe in marriage as we and other religions believe. We are pro preserving the definition of marriage as being between one man and one woman.

Misconception #2. Proposition 8 denies same-sex couples the rights of marriage. As of 2007, California domestic partnerships are afforded ALL of the same rights and responsibilities as marriages under state law (California Family Code Section 297.5).

Misconception #3. Proposition 8 is analogous to the "separate but equal" racial laws of the Jim Crow era. Everyone has the right to marry if they choose. Everyone has the right to be in a domestic partnership if they choose. But those are two different things, by DEFINITION.

There are many important factors weighing on this issue. It will affect all families and our children's future. If you'd like to read more, please click here.
Please join our family in voting YES on Proposition 8.

A lot of us non-Californians are praying for Prop 8 to pass. Well done on the hair clip, it seems like such a non-confrontational way to bring up the subject. It's a touchy issue, but I think if people understood it better it would pass with no problem. Thanks for the info, good luck California!!
